April 23, 2025 has marked a truly memorable moment when ST Engineering Mobility Services and Se-cure Waste Management (SWM) decided to formally collaborate and explore lithium-ion battery recycling solutions for ST Engineering Mobility Services, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability, with the aim of creating a closed-loop circular value for lithium-ion batteries.
This formal collaboration agreement includes a framework to explore sustainable recycling solutions for ST Engineering Mobility Services’ lithium-ion battery materials and support its environmental aspirations through utility/ value maximization for its existing lithium-ion batteries and ultimately recycling its end-of-life batteries responsibly where these recycled materials can be used as an alternative source to mining natural resources for the manufacturing of new lithium-ion batteries.
Quoted from YeenTeck Hoe, SVP/ Head of Mobility Road and Services at ST Engineering Urban Solutions, “As Singapore’s vehicle population transitions into cleaner energy modes, we need to take action on their full life cycle to minimise environmental impact. This collaboration is key to supporting a circular ecosystem where EV batteries are recycled, repurposed, and reintegrated into the supply chain. By extending battery lifespans, we’re reducing waste, conserving resources, and contributing to greener mobility — all while supporting the vision of smarter, future-ready cities.”
This sense of commitment is also shared by Vince Goh, Chief Executive Officer at Se-cure Waste Management (SWM), “This collaboration significantly boosts our sustainability outcome by pooling resources thus enabling better use, leveraging diverse expertise, broadening perspectives and enabling larger-scale initiatives that would have been difficult for a single organization to under-take. This results in stronger overall impact on sustainability goals as both parties shoulder the responsibility of implementing and scaling green initiatives, accelerating innovation and development of sustainable solutions.”
Both organizations are operating within Singapore.
